One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and
spyware. Great free application!
AVG Free AntiVirus 8.0
Free anti-virus program. Everyone absolutely needs anti-virus. Here is
a free solution. Read the linked page for more instruction. You may
need a key emailed to you to activate.
FileZilla FTP
Free FTP program. Intuitive and easy to use. Did we mention free? Link takes you to downloads for Windows, Mac, and Linux versions.

Internet Explorer 7
An upgrade for the current version (IE6) that is not in full
distribution yet. Nice look and works well. Worth a try if Internet
Explorer is your browser of choice. This is for Windows XP SP2 only.
McAfee VirusScan - Free Online
McAfee FreeScan helps you detect thousands of viruses on your computer.
Based on the award-winning McAfee VirusScan engine, FreeScan searches
for viruses, including the latest known "in the wild" viruses, and
displays a detailed list of any infected files. Should viruses be
found, FreeScan even provides links to more information about the
viruses and what you can do to clean your system.
Microsoft Windows Defender
Microsoft's antispyware solution; pretty good! This is the version that was released for free and already integrated into Windows Vista.
Microsoft Windows Updates
An absolute must for all windows users. Dial-up can be slow, but still
necessary. Set it up once and let it download in the background.
UltraVNC
Free remote control program. Download requires an unzipping program
such as 'WinZip'. UltraVNC allows file transfer in addition to remote
control functions. Downloads found at the bottom of the page.
Windows XP Service Pack 3
A complete update and security patch rollup. No new features for standard users, but easier then running all the updates individually.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Vista Service Pack 1 can be downloaded via Windows Update or the full package here.
